Building a drying cabinet is easy with an Ecor Pro desiccant dehumidifier. Not only can they work at lower temperatures but also can be used for a range of drying applications. These include drying Wood, Meat Products or other Organic materials.
As a rule of thumb the maximum dryness level a desiccant dehumidifier can reach with all matters considered is around 25% Relative Humidity. A compressor dehumidifier will only be able to work to around 45% humidity.
- Air holds more water when it is warmer. Therefore, there needs ideally to be consideration to insulating the cabinet with foam insulation material. If the box is to be in contact with an abrasive material ensure the foam is protected to give longevity.
- Ensure all edges are corners are sealed tape to prevent damp air from outside entering the chamber including seepage from the surrounding area. Seal and the lid as much as possible also ensuring a tight fit or close door fit if a cabinet version as below.
Wood is usually dried in large timber kilns as it leaves the lumber yard. This is a heating and drying system that is highly specialised for treating new wood. This outline gives an idea for creating a drying cabinet to maintain wood dryness and is not meant for treating freshly cut wood. This should help prevent warping and make the wood more manageable.
Drying cabinet made with a DH35XX/EPD200 are in many ways simpler. Neutral pressure allows the chamber to remain completely sealed which means faster and more effective drying.
- If the DH35XX / EPD200 is placed inside the cabinet then 2 x 80mm diameter holes will be needed to cope with the “regen air” or the air used to purge the DH3500 of moisture to the outside.
- If placed outside the cabinet then 2 x 125mm diameter holes placed in opposite ends of the cabinet to cope with the “process air” or the air that is cleaned and dried.
- The DH2500 needs to have a vent in the drying box that is of similar area in size to the exhaust of 80mm diameter whether mounted inside or outside the drying chamber
- Neither the DH3500 or DH2500 come with a humidistat. This additional item may needed to be added in order to reach the desired level of humidity required else the units will dry continuously until switched off. This can lead to over drying.

If the chamber is very compact with items ensure a free flow of air around the drying box. An additional fan may be required inside the drying box to help ensure a flow of dry air around the material being dried.
Smaller drying cabinets can use the DH8XX / EPD30 or DH12XX / EPD50 dehumidifiers but still the larger DH25XX / EPD150 or DH35XX / EPD200 can be used if quicker drying is required. Ecor Pro DH8XX / EPD30 & DH12XX / EPD50 work in a similar way to the DH25XX / EPD150. Both of these units are “3 hole” dehumidifiers so need a small vent of around 40mm in diameter to allow exhausted wet air to be replenished to equalize the pressure else they will not work at drying.
- Both the DH1200 / EPD50 & DH800 / EPD30 can be mounted inside the drying chamber.
- Only the DH1200 / EPD30 has an additional exhaust flange and internal blower which allows the Ecor Pro DH1200 / EPD50 to be able to be placed also outside the smaller chamber if desired.

Care must always be given to ensure no water drips onto any Ecor Pro DH dehumidifier.

DH800 1 to 4 cubic meters / 9cft to 35 cft
DH1200 1 to 6 cubic meters / 9cft to 55 cft
DH2500 1 to 18 cubic meters / 9cft to 160 cft
DH3500 1 to 24 cubic meters / 9cft to 320 cft
Note drying cabinets generally need a compound effect to bring materials to a low relative humidity in a relatively short time. It does not reflect the capacity of the dehumidifiers to reduce humidity in a building where generally more time is given to the drying process and moisture content is relatively lower and there is an easier flow of air.

Time to dry with depend not only on the moisture content but also the ability of the material being dried to give up that moisture to the air.
